So for all of these illustrations, I've used the simplest shape and amount of lines to describe the form. Big influences for me, among many, many others are Hirschfeld and Eyvind Earle. If you thought that Earle just did beautiful landscapes, you should check out his figurative illustrations. Clean, simple and graphic. I suppose being an animator, I'm always looking for clean lines of action, readable shapes, and simple graphics so you can instantly see what I want to draw your eye too.

I'm really enjoying these new vector posts Donnachada! It's amazing to see how much life you can get using so few lines.-- Nice Gorilla to!
Heya pal.
I haven't commented for a few days as I've been away, but I've been checking them out remotely.
Top notch old chap!
Hey Josh. I love doing them too. I'll branch out and do other posts without the girls, but they're just so much fun to do.
Hey St John. Sure. I really just decide what is the most important part of the pose that I'm looking for. Thinking graphically, I try to represent that shape more as a symbol of the shape, rather than an exact, true to life shape. I look at reference material from anywhere. Mags, books, papers, film and T.V. and also just from memory. Usually I'll take just part of a pose and start building on that. I'll start with the most interesting part of the pose and then shape my lines to what I think will fit best. Simpicity is the key. Too much messing about will kill the picture.
Unecessary lines are not important.
I try to strip it to the essence. Those are the ones that are the most pleasing to me.
Hope that helps you out.
Cool Elliot. Really appreciate it. I saw that you were on your travels. good to have you back.
St John - the point D makes about stripping the images down to it's barest lines is something I do myself.
Certainly what I do is more detailed that Ds stylised images, but I see it as a real challenge to pare it down as much as possible.
Hi Donnachada!
I've just discovered your blog two days ago and I'm already hooked! The elegant simple lines of your vector work reminds me a bit of the work of the Dutch comic artist Hanco Kolk. You know him?
Here's a link to a few of his illustrations:

P.S.: I'm looking for an illustrator who would be interested in helping me spruce up my film site. We're a bunch of very ambitous amateurs. Any ideas?
I can assure you that I have never sucked any kind of dick. And for Anonymus' information: Michael Jackson doesnt live in France.
Love your work Josh! Keep it up!
