Knee's Up
Messing about with colour again. This comes from the idea of the use of a blue underdrawing with a pencil line on top. I've always liked that look. Those drawings had so much life in them compared to drawings cleaned up on a fresh sheet of paper. This is my take on that idea.

Learn Everything
I wasn't able to atted the Ottawa festival this year. The up swing part of that is that I was able to attend Stephen Silver's class held at The Entertainment Art Academy hosted and run by Michael Mattesi. Thanks so much to Stephen for taking the time to share his knowledge. He is as enthusiastic about drawing as his drawings look. Completely energetic and passionate. Even though I've been doing this a while, I'll still seek out how other artists will approach something. You can never stop learning. That probably comes from looking over the shoulder of my mentors, as each of them had a lot of unique ideas to share, which, seeing in practice, is priceless. If you live in L.A., Michael's new school is definately worth checking out, and the classes offered cover a wide range of topics.
So, enough already. Follow the links. Check it out. Stephen is thinking of doing more classes, and Mike has too many great classes to pass up.

Tragedy In One Act
A couple of years ago I made an independent short called "Tragedy In One Act".
I did it because I hadn't gone to an animation school and was envious of students having time to produce their own short.
I felt I had missed out on the thrill of just doing it yourself, and finding out all about the trials and tribulations along the way. I used the ToonBoom animation software and found that it was easy to use. It's laid out just like an traditional animator would expect. I was up and running very quickly.
At the time I had finished it, I only got the chance to run it in one festival (The Mill Valley Film Festival) before I got too busy to send it around the circuit.
I should really get it back on the festival circuit. If not, I'll find a way to stream it online.
It's a tragic story of a bunny and his carrot.
Here are some screenshots from the final film.

Beware This Man
Beware this Man.
If you live in LA, and see him coming towards you, RUN, RUN like the wind. He will wrench out your soul and spew it down onto paper. His name is Jeremy. He is the caricature devil. Beware.
(Nice one Jeremy for being on Cartoon Brew)

whatshisname
Donn..... Donna......Donnchalada......what the heck?......
Yeah, I know. It's actually an old, sorry, really old Irish name with lots of silent letters. Your kinda screwed if you see it written down before you hear how it's pronounced. I've noticed that a few of the comments on the posts call me Donna. No worries. To clear the matter up, have a gander at Jeremy Bernstein site. Specifically, Here. He's done a bunch of beautiful caricatures of the work mates, so you can see how un-"Donna"-ish I look. Unfortunately, he is spot on. I'll have to return the...eh...compliment soon.

Just started archiving, so if your new to the site, please check out previous posts.
Also, I just got spammed, so I've turned on word verification for comments. Sorry for the hassle. I tried to hold off for as long as possible.

Links to well known animators.
Hey, I'm really happy to add a couple of well known directors/animators to my links page.
Their work is stunning and I am so happy that they started blogs. Please check their links on their sites, as that will bring you to the work they have done in their respective studios.
Oscar Grillo's work was seen all over Europe and is known for having such a varied style for all of his projects. If variety is the spice of life, then Oscar Grillo is the spice in animation. I was floored by his work growing up. Here's his link. He posts his personal pictures everyday.....

Uli Meyer's drawings are spectacular. Such a wonderful flow through his work. I used to check out his web site for inspiration and was delighted to see that he just started a blog. Beautiful work. I hope to learn from his drawings......

enough, I can't stand the gushing. Please, take a look and enjoy.
