Today I am a happy man. My counter passed 20,000 hits and 32,670 page loads today. Thank you all for your support and kind words. I have made many friends whom I would never have known otherwise. It is really amazing to me, because my artwork would just have been sitting on the shelf all lonesome and everything. I continue to be inspired by all your great works. Boy, I wish this was around when I was a kid.
Now, to continue with what has become a "ruff" week, here are a couple of tonights ruff sketches. All the finished images of this kind were previously done straight into illustrator without any ruff sketches or doodles. I thought I'd do a couple of quick ruffs with an old worn out pen on good old paper for a change. I suppose this would be what my ruff animation drawings would look like if I was still doing 2D while blocking out a scene. Maybe I'll do an illustrator version of these next week.

Here's a random sketch from my sketch pad. I have sketch books, but most of the time I just use photocopy paper on one of those clip boards. I don't feel restricted using it as I can just discard anything I don't want, and picking up a block of copy paper has a more open feeling to it. Long gone are the days when a blank sheet of paper was the enemy. Just get loads of blank paper and let rip.
This sketch came out of seeing the same model in different ads that seemed to have eyes wider apart than the norm. I've done a few of this type of pose/theme. Maybe it will be this weeks theme. Oh yeah, I still use pencils, pens and a fave at the moment, the china marker. I've been enjoying taming illustrator, but you gotta love the feeling of real materials.

In my world, Friday is Hula day. Why don't you join the fun?
PLEASE go check out Jenny Lerew's Blog if you haven't already. She has uncovered a treasure trove about Fred Moore. Fred and Ward Kimball are my two favourate animators from Disney. Their timing was brilliant and their drawings are stunning. I can't even tell you how happy I am that Jenny is able to share these important photo's of Fred with us. Stay tuned to her site for more. I can hardly wait. Fred's illustrations and animation drawings were the most inspiring artwork for me. A huge influence. I'd oogle over his drawings to try and learn from them. I'm only one of many who are so happy when they find an image that they haven't seen before. I'm probably preaching to the choir, so I'll stop now. Go see now. Then visit again.
Oh yes, here you go, add a hula hoop and stir....

Starting to add some more elements to these. Step by step, we'll see where it leads.

I've just set up a separate page of links HERE. I get so much inspiration from all of you, and this was for me the best way I can browse around quickly. I know this is just the tip of the iceberg too. My bookmarks page was getting silly, and it never seems to stop growing. Hopefully it never will as I discover more an more artists. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be able to see all of your work. What a wonderful forum. The links will always be evolving. This is a start. When I get a chance, I'll update it. I haven't yet got to putting up the regular old "artist's portfolio" links yet. Just the blogs for the moment, but those will be added later. I'm sure all of these blogs will be well known. Now it's just easier to browse around.
And here's today's offering. Green Haired Girl. Maybe it has somthing to do with my subconscious about St. Particks day coming up. Theme week? .....Maybe......

Hooray! The store is open for business. So, fresh off the press, now you can get your gear here. It's great to see some of the images from this blog on actual physical items. I just got a bunch of these and was really happy to see the results. So, I hope you like it too. I will be updating the store as I go along, and I'll let you know when new items are in. Hope you enjoy them.
If you have any favourite images from this blog that aren't in the store, let me know and I'll try and get them up there if the image size suits the needs of the printing process. I won't be doing prints just yet, but I'll keep you updated on that. I've also added the link in the sidebar. Hooray for international shipping.
Happy shopping everyone.
Oh, and here is today's image....

Trials and tribulations. Haha, this was painful.
For some reason, this one took forever to do. Some days you just can't get into the flow and other days it rolls off the pencil or tablet pen. Fortunately, I'm a persistant bugger, and finally I solved the drawing problems. Times like that really makes you question every single line to make sure it's in the right place. I do that subconsiously anyway, and I know where to place the lines even before I put them down, but sometimes my hand doesn't do what I can see in my mind. It's a good feeling though when you finally get it right.
